DARLING HARBOUR

Darling Harbour is an iconic waterside precinct, located just a short walk from the heart of Sydney centre. It is a family friendly destination with a vast variety of waterfront dining options, museums, playgrounds and entertainment that are all children friendly.

Darling Harbour was originally occupied by the Gadigal people over 7000 years ago and when the first colonist fleet arrived in 1788, they took over, using the space as a hub for shipping and manufacturing. It was originally called Long Cove and then Cockle Bay because of the shells that piled high on the shore. In 1826 the name was changed to Darling Harbour, named after Governor Ralph Darling and continued operating as a shipping hub until 1984 when it was refurbished and returned to the people. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip arrived at Darling Harbour in 1988 to open the newly redeveloped precinct, drawing a crowd of over 10,000 people. Fast forward to 2022, Darling Harbour welcomed over 1.1 million visitors and remains a popular spot for gatherings to enjoy Sydney’s best harbour views.
