QVB

Queen Victoria Building, also known as QVB, is a heritage-listed 19th century building located in the centre of Sydney CBD. The Romanesque Revival building, completed in 1898, is one of Sydney’s most popular and prestigious shopping destinations, and is home to more than 180 exceptional local and international fashion brands such as Mulberry, Dior, R.M. Williams, Oroton, and Jimmy Choo. This iconic building, which was once a produce market, receives 19.8 million visits annually.

ABOUT QVB

There is much more to the QVB than simply shopping in a palatial classical setting, it is also famous for its statues with Byzantine influences and works by 19th-century master craftsmen, stonemasons, plasterers, and stained-glass artists. The Queen Victoria Building was renovated for $75 million and reopened in 1986 in its current state. The impressive centrepiece dome is the building's standout feature and a must-see for all visitors. It houses a massive 24-metre Christmas tree spanning 3 levels tall during the holiday season. Beautiful architecture and stained-glass windows can be found throughout the entire structure, and a 19th-century original staircase is located next to the dome.

There is a Victoria Cross Memorial dedicated to 96 Australians who had been awarded the Victoria Cross. The names of Australians who have received the Victoria Cross are listed on the wooden honour board. For classical art-lovers, the upper floor of QVB contains historical and classical paintings. A sealed letter written by Queen Elizabeth II is perhaps one of the Queen Victoria Building's most intriguing items on display. The next Lord Mayor of Sydney is to read the letter in 2085. The letter's contents are unknown, and it is hidden someplace in the forbidden dome atop QVB. The public is not allowed inside the dome itself, however 'secret tour' groups occasionally have access to it.

For those who enjoy afternoon tea, The Tea Room QVB offers one of Sydney's most opulent High Tea experiences. Enjoy the special atmosphere and indulge yourself to an afternoon of opulence and luxury. From the exquisite Royal Albert fine china and British silverware settings to the mouthwatering assortment of petit fours made by award-winning pâtissiers, it is really an unforgettable experience.
