SEA LIFE SYDNEY AQUARIUM

One of Sydney’s most popular attractions, the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium is home to more than 700 species of marine creatures from most of Australia’s water habitats. Extremely popular with travellers and locals alike, overseas visitors account for more than 55% of the aquarium’s visitors.

The SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium is situated on the north of the Pyrmont Bridge on the eastern side of Darling Harbour. It belongs to both the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA) as a full institutional member. Taking approximately two years to build, the aquarium is designed to resemble a wave, and to complement the underwater theme of an aquarium and the maritime theme of Darling Harbour.

ABOUT SEA LIFE SYDNEY AQUARIUM

The aquarium has 14 themed areas, including the largest Great Barrier Reef exhibit in the world, Shark Walk, Discovery Rockpool, and Jurassic Seas. Along the way, visitors come across creatures particular to each environment, such as one of only four dugongs on display in the entire world, as well as sharks, stingrays, penguins, and tropical fish.

Discover an amazing underwater world at the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium. The aquarium offers a variety of engaging activities like no other. Visitors can adopt a juvenile White's seahorse, dive with sharks, stingrays and other sea creatures, enjoy a private three-course dinner experience against an exquisite underwater backdrop, and watch fishes, turtles, and sharks cruise by. Get up close and personal with gentoo and king penguin colonies as they waddle and splash about a replica of Macquarie Island.

At Shark Valley in the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, watch out for Big Mouth, the largest ray in the aquarium. Go to Dugong Island to observe Pig the dugong, who ambles around at a leisurely pace while being surrounded by bamboo sharks and white-spotted eagle rays. Visit the Discovery Rockpool to speak with a marine expert and handle sea stars, shark eggs, shells, and more. At the Sydney Harbour exhibit, you can have a look beneath the most famous harbour in the world and get a glimpse of some of the 600 species that call this significant ecological area home.
