ABOUT ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN

When visiting the Royal Botanic Garden, visitors will be able to engage with over 28,000 plants, 8000 different species including international species and Australian natives that are rare and ancient. It is also the home to the first public garden display, Cadi Jam Ora Garden, to acknowledge the Cadigal people, who were the original inhabitants of the land. There are two paid tours available including the Aboriginal Harbour Heritage Tour and Aboriginal Bush Tucker Tour that are designed to encourage visitors to immerse themselves Aboriginal culture in a fun and exciting way. During these tours, people can learn about Indigenous bush foods and how they have been adapted to the modern palate and understand more about the history and connection of the country.

There are four main sections to the garden, each separated by themes including the Lower Gardens, the Middle Gardens, the Palace Gardens, and the Bennelong precinct. Each section allows visitors to explore the unique selections of plants and flowers whilst offering space for picnic opportunities and cafes for breaks. The Calyx is another prime attraction that’s situated in the heart of the Royal Botanic Garden. It’s a public floral exhibition with the largest living green wall in the southern hemisphere along with a striking garden oasis. Attached to this exhibition is a cafe kiosk and a Calyx one stop shop for everything plant related.
